Gorsey Clough has been working with students of the Faculty of Health and Social Care at the University of Salford. The Home now provides 30 day placements to its first year BA (Hons) Social Work Studies students. Wendy Walling is the first such student to complete her placement - which has been judged a success by Wendy and Staff alike - and we look forward to working with many more students in the future. The aim of the placement is to provide students with an opportunity to explore a particular agency / organisation (in this case Gorsey Clough Nursing Home), it's locality (Bury) and the needs of people in that area (old age and mental health in Wendy's case). Students are required to complete a number of placement days in order to complete their degree. They must complete a 30 day placement in Year 1, 70 days in Year 2 and 100 days in Year 3. As part of their 30 day placement, students are also expected to give a Powerpoint presentation and complete a reflective Workbook. They are then given a final mark!
